About CBD Capsules

Capsules are the most convenient way to take a pre-measured dose of CBD. Highland Pharms offers both softgel and regular capsules, made with quality hemp-extracted CBD oil. All you have to do is decide on the right dosage for your needs and take when needed.

Advantages of softgels and other capsules

Softgels are similar to regular capsules but are typically made from gelatin or vegan substitutes and contain liquid ingredients. This gives them good ‘bioavailability’—a term which refers to the amount of substance that can be absorbed into the body and actively circulate the system, rendering a noticeable effect on the consumer. This is why softgel capsules are a popular form of medicines and supplements. (1)

They might cost more to manufacture, but softgels are convenient to consume, store, and transport. While regular capsules are good for supplements made from powders, such as powdered hemp, softgel capsules are best for containing liquid. The contents are sealed with a band that protects from oxidation and external tampering.

Additionally, softgel capsules are easy to swallow and aren’t known to have many side effects. Capsules are even free of the strong smell and taste that puts some people off trying cannabidiol.

Safe use of CBD capsules

Recent studies have indicated that humans are more tolerant to higher doses of CBD than initially thought. This limits the risk of overdose exponentially. However, to feel the desired effects and benefits of CBD, you don’t need to administer a high dose. Plus, as quality CBD oil doesn’t contain levels of THC above 0.3%, there’s no chance of addiction and dependency. (2)

Before taking any form of CBD—whether capsules, drops or edibles—we recommend speaking to your doctor about the possible benefits and risks to introducing something new into your daily routine. Some pre-existing conditions and prescribed medications don’t mix well with CBD products, so it’s important to ensure your safety first.

You should always monitor your body’s response when starting to use CBD and take note of any changes that occur as you increase or decrease your dosage. It’s vital to remember that while significant side effects of CBD are rare, they can still happen—especially while research and studies are still being conducted into the efficacy of the compound. Work together with your regular health practitioner to monitor your CBD journey.

We recommend trialing a range of CBD products before settling on one, as each form is absorbed differently by the body. Using tinctures first before committing to CBD capsules is one easy option to help you gage the amount of CBD that aligns with your body’s needs. This way, you can measure out careful doses and increase or decrease them slightly to test your tolerance. Once your body becomes used to consuming CBD on a regular basis, then you may prefer to try capsules and tablets. (3)

It’s important to understand that the FDA has not approved the use of CBD for medical treatment, with the exception of one drug, Epidiolex, prescribed for certain epileptic seizures. CBD is legally still considered a food supplement.

Why Highland Pharms CBD capsules?

Here at Buena Vida Botanicals, it’s no secret that we trust Highland Pharms products over all other suppliers. Why? Because we know they share our focus on providing the best CBD products to the public and they demonstrate this by sourcing their ingredients from small farms that utilize organic growing practices. All CBD extract included in Highland Pharms products is derived from non-GMO hemp and meticulously cared for.

The well-being of our customers and their loved ones is of utmost importance in our quest to increase accessibility to quality CBD. At the end of the day, YOU are our number one priority.

Find what’s right for you

When searching for a CBD capsule or softgel, you might want to consider the product’s cannabinoid and terpene profile, potency, and additional ingredients. Some additives may assist you with other concerns, too; for instance, linalool is thought to aid sleep. Conversely, if you have any allergies or intolerances, vigilance is crucial. (4)

If you’re vegan or vegetarian, pay close attention to the ingredients of each product, as many softgels contain gelatin unless specifically labeled otherwise. Whether or not you can handle swallowing pills, capsule shape and size is worth considering as well.

Which CBD capsules should you use?

We stock a number of different CBD capsule options in varying strengths and sizes, so you can choose the strength that’s most appropriate to your needs. There are softgels ranging from 15mg to 150mg, along with vegan-friendly powdered hemp capsules at 100mg. The milligram dosage refers to the amount of cannabidiol in each pill.

All Highland Pharms softgels and capsules are infused with the highest quality full-spectrum CBD hemp extract. Not only do they contain cannabidiol, but also other cannabinoids that boast numerous possible health benefits. These compounds work together to enhance the effects on the receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. This is referred to as the ‘entourage effect’ and most experts believe it has the potential to maximize the benefits of CBD.

CBD Capsules & CBD Pills FAQs

Do CBD Capsules Expire?

Yes, they do. CBD capsules and softgels typically have a shelf life of two years if they're stored as recommended—in a cool, dry location.

What strength of CBD Capsules should I order?

There is no definitive answer to this, as the ideal dosage of CBD depends on one's unique physiology and the symptoms they’re experiencing. On it, you’ll find tips to help you determine the best dosage for your personal requirements and a method of calculating exactly how much CBD is in each product. We suggest conducting thorough independent research prior to making a purchase, so that you can make an informed decision. For most people, experimental trial and error is necessary to determine the optimal amount of CBD to take.

Are CBD capsules more effective than other consumable products (such as CBD gummies or CBD oil tinctures)?

All Highland Pharms CBD products are made from identical organic hemp extract—a full-spectrum extract containing both CBD and a large array of cannabinoids and phytonutrients found naturally in the plant (excluding THC). As the complete product range includes the same main ingredient, most customers find that each one benefits them similarly. However, some people do report finding CBD capsules more effective than other consumable items like gummies.

Do CBD capsules and softgels contain THC?

No, they don’t. All CBD products must contain less than 0.3% THC in order to be considered federally legal for purchase in the United States. This ensures that Highland’s range of products aren’t psychoactive and won’t get you “high”.

How long does it take for CBD capsules to become effective?

CBD pills take approximately 45 minutes to go into effect for most people; however, this time frame can vary substantially. Some notice the benefits of CBD within an hour of their first use, while other people may not notice results until several days or weeks of regular consumption. The perceived benefits of CBD and the time it takes to experience them will depend on how your body responds to cannabidiol.

How do CBD softgels compare to regular capsules?

The ingredients inside of softgels are generally absorbed faster than traditional capsules. Experts believe this is likely due to their bioavailability and liquid solubility.
However, as we’ve mentioned, everyone responds to medication and supplements uniquely. The absorption rate of all medicines and supplements depends on an array of physiological factors, from metabolism to tolerance.

Why should I take CBD oil capsules?

Many consumers opt for CBD oil capsules because of their convenience. Taking a pre-measured serving of CBD is easy, so the appeal is understandable—especially to those who juggle busy schedules and desire a low-maintenance medication regimen. Some people just generally prefer not to apply topicals or consume items containing CBD. They simply want something they can take fast and safely.

What is the difference between CBD softgels and CBD hard pills?

Most brands offering CBD hard pills imbue their products with CBD isolate—the most processed form of CBD. This is what remains of CBD extract after removing all other chemical compounds.
Broad-spectrum sits somewhere in between CBD isolate and full-spectrum CBD. It contains most of the naturally occurring cannabinoids, excluding THC. In terms of manufacturing costs, broad-spectrum CBD is thought to be the most costly and labor-intensive to produce, which explains why many companies use CBD isolate in their products instead.
Highland Pharms infuse their CBD oil capsules and softgels with full-spectrum CBD. This form of CBD retains all of the cannabinoids and phytonutrients found naturally in the hemp plant. The hemp plants used in all Highland Pharms products are non-GMO (not genetically modified), grown without pesticides, and contain no more than .03% of THC. So, the presence of this troublesome cannabinoid is not an issue. When these additional compounds are present and no solvents, pesticides or heavy metals are used to create the end product, some customers report experiencing more therapeutic benefits.
It’s important to remember that these spectrums aren't regulated by the FDA, so it's crucial to purchase CBD oil and capsules only from a trustworthy supplier with excellent customer reviews. We’re proud to partner with Highland Pharms, who’s quality products have undergone third-party lab testing and which are derived from sustainably-grown industrial hemp plants.

Are softgels vegan- and vegetarian-friendy?

Regular softgel capsules are typically made using gelatin—an animal product—making them unsuitable for those following a vegan or vegetarian diet. However, we also sell vegan CBD hemp capsules, with shells made from pectin.

How many CBD oil capsules or CBD softgels should I take?

We sell CBD capsules in many different strengths to suit a variety of needs. As mentioned earlier, the “correct” serving size of CBD differs from person to person; some may find they need to take more than one CBD capsule each day to experience the desired effects.
Typically, we suggest customers new to CBD begin by taking CBD capsules twice a day—once in the morning and once at night. After a few days, you can adjust your routine according to your experience and tailor your dosing schedule to your lifestyle.
